Membrane filters act as a barrier to separate contaminants from water, or they remove the particles contaminating the water. Reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration all use a membrane in their different filtration processes. Our Master Water Specialist, John Woodard, explains what a membrane filter is and how it works inside different water filtration systems.
Filter Membranes. Produced by the precipitation or stretching of polymeric materials, membrane filters are commonly used in both industry and research. Properties of membrane filters vary widely with differences in composition, surface treatments, and pore size. Selecting the ideal filter requires an understanding of basic characteristics.
Membrane filters serve as effective physical barriers that remove solids, viruses, bacteria, and other unwanted molecules. Specialized types are designed for softening, disinfecting, organic removal processing, and water desalination. The filters can be installed in compact, automated, or modular units. These strainers can be used as separators
Depth filtration. In terms of particle retention, filters fall into two categories: surface filters and depth filters. Surface filters, generally referred to as membranes, trap particles exclusively on the top surface. These filters are well suited to samples with low particulate content. However, high particulate content tends to rapidly clog

Membrane technologies can be used in combination, such as ultrafiltration followed by reverse osmosis for seawater desalination processes, and microfiltration followed by nanofiltration for clarification of fermentation broth and product concentration. Our technologies are made to handle a wide range of process fluids, water and wasteAijiren Technology.
If the membrane does not have a substrate, it is bio-directional and either side can be used as the inlet. If it has a substrate, the substrate layer will be more coarse and ridged than the membrane side. The membrane side would be the inlet and the coarse substrate side the outlet. The solvent should enter the inlet side of the membrane first.
Membrane Filters. Membrane filters are available in a wide choice of colors, pore sizes, either gridded or non-gridded, in individually sterile-packaged or non-sterile-packaged versions, and with or without a hydrophobic edge. The Microsart ® e.motion membrane packaging is specially designed for use with the Microsart ® e.motion Dispenser.
Single packed or dispenser-ready sterile membranes can be used for colony counting, particle testing, microscopy and sterility testing. The membrane filters are made of cellulose nitrate (cellulose mixed ester), cellulose acetate or regenerated cellulose. Choose between gridded or non-gridded single packed sterile membranes, either with or
UF Membrane Filter. Ultrafiltration membrane filtration (UF) is a low-pressure membrane process for water treatment designed to remove particles caused by turbidity. These particles include particles composed of suspended solids, bacteria, colloids and proteins. Hydro blue’s experience within wastewater treatment dates back a decade.
The membrane is asymmetric and reinforced with nonwoven cellulose making them very durable. They are available in two pore sizes: 0.45 μm and 0.2 μm and several diameters, making it easy to fine regenerated cellulose filter for almost every need.
